Your first website, set up right from the start

You have a business and customers, maybe an Instagram or a Google listing, and no website yet. I design and build first websites for small businesses and solo owners. Starting fresh means there's nothing old to move or untangle, so we set it up the right way once. I work from Sausalito, in the San Francisco Bay Area, with clients there and remotely.

Do you need one?

Instagram and a Google listing are a good start, and plenty of customers find businesses that way. A website adds what they can't:

  • A page that shows up when someone searches for what you do in your town
  • One place with everything a customer needs: what you offer, your prices or menu, your hours and how to reach you
  • A way to call, book, order or email you in one tap from a phone
  • Something you own, that stays put when an app changes its rules

If a website wouldn't help your business yet, I'll tell you.

What you get

for businesses that need a site customers can find on their phone, understand in seconds, and contact you from

web designmobile-first buildsearch setuptalk-to-update
  • A plan before any design: a site map and wireframes, so we agree on what goes where
  • Up to five pages, designed for your business and built for phones first
  • Clear ways for customers to act: call, book, order or email
  • Set up so Google can find it: page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, and the site connected to Google Search Console and your Google Business Profile, which I can help you create if you don't have one
  • The talk-to-update setup: change your menu, hours or specials by texting or talking to it, without a web developer

Starts at $2,000. Up to five pages, with two rounds of changes, live in two to four weeks. You provide the words and photos, or I can help write the words at $120 an hour.

What you own

Everything runs on your own accounts: your domain name, your hosting and your site. A site like this usually costs nothing to host, and the domain name is a small yearly fee. If we stop working together, you keep all of it.

How it works

Plan on two to four weeks from our first call to a live site.

  1. We talk. A short call about your business, your customers and what the site needs to do.
  2. I plan it. A site map and wireframes for you to approve.
  3. We set up your accounts. Your domain, hosting and Google listing, in your name. This is usually the slowest part, so I can sit with you, in person or on a call, and do it together.
  4. I design and build it. You see it on your phone before anything goes live.
  5. It goes live. With a guide and a call to walk you through your first update.

Who I am

I build websites, web apps, and apps on the App Store and Google Play. I started out building sites for local businesses, a nonprofit and a journalist in Santa Barbara, and today I design and build everything for my own studio, including apps people pay for.

Fabrizio's Italian Kitchen in Madras, Oregon updates its menu by talking to its site. A new dish goes live about 30 seconds after the owner approves it. See the case study or the websites I've built.

Already have a site? See site reviews and updates for the site you have.
